It’s widely known that exercise in general can prevent depression and improve health and even increase a person’s life expectancy. However, research is now finding that the means in which you exercise can affect the overall efficiency of the workout, specifically the benefits of working out with others. Group workouts are shown to decrease stress levels, and improvements in mental, physical, and emotional health.
Personally, I completely agree with this study. I have only had positive experiences when working out with family and friends, because it not only is a bonding experience, but it also increases my motivation. Exercising with others holds you more accountable and increases the intensity of your workout because you don’t want to disappoint your friends. It also makes fitness fun! You will have someone to chat with and joke around how much both of you are suffering throughout the next set of moves.
Even if you don’t work out with current acquaintances, group classes or workouts are a great way to meet like-minded people. It makes sense why working out with others can boost your quality of life and your quality of exercise. The combination of group comradery and exercise benefits a person’s life through so many different facets, so grab and buddy and go!
